installation or RH9 results w/ fatal region error
I did re-install and used manual partitioning. Everything was the same
as it
has been historically. There was no error message on "force LBA". None
on "install on MBR".
Can not make a boot disk. Still get "An error occurred when making the
boot
disk. Please make sure that there is a floppy in the first floppy
drive." And
as I had previously stated the drive light does flash so I know it tries
the
correct 3.5 inch drive.
Both Seagate and Western Digital hard disks perform the same (so it
rules out
the hard disk)
There is no other OS involved. There is no other partition or space used
on
the disk. No other 3rd party software.
Yes, the computer works with another operating system. I have a disk
with
Windows 2000 on it and I can put that in the chassis (by itself and not
either
the WD or Seagate disk I assigned to LINUX) and the computer works fine.
The
floppy drive works (reads/writes) perfectly. The CDROM has no problem
with
reads and installs CD's just fine.
The only thing I can see (and it goes by so fast I have a hard time
seeing it)
is at the end of the install. I think it says there is a "fatal region"
error
and it repeats 10-15 times before continuing with the script. Then it
stops to
re-boot and I get the GRUB. So it appears to me that it is trying to
write
something to the disk and can't, but doesn't stop in the script. Like it
was
writing to a non-existent place or undefined area.
Any ideas? Or is this just the first time this is encountered? Thanks
for suggestions you may have.
