Installation failed mid-install, now grub is all I have!

{I posted this earlier in the Fedora forum, but by the stats no one is even browsing in it -- sorry if you see it twice....}

OK, this has me thoroughly confused -- I was installing FC1 on a laptop with nothing else on it, from CDs that I have used many times before without incident, and it locked up on me while trying to mount CD#2 (even though it passed the media check!).

Now I can't get the laptop to boot from CD#1 ! Or from a boot floppy I made on a Win box from the img on CD#1.

Or at least I don't think I can -- all I get, no matter what drive I tell it to boot from, is the "grub> " prompt. What am I supposed to do with that?

I don't know how to tell how far the install got before. I'd be fine with starting over a fresh install, but I cant figure out how to get around this grub prompt and just boot from the CD!

Any ideas?

Thanks, W

Update: messing around on the GRUB manual page, I can get it to almost boot up the half-botched install from the HD. But how do I make it boot from the CD or the floppy drive? The HD, even if I ever get it to boot properly, will be a corrupted system, won't it?

Yeah. I've tried putting both the CDROM and floppy drive first in boot-order, and it appears to me that it's not having any effect.

Seems like its booting from the HD any way I try it.

In fact, when I get the grub prompt, I can try "root (fd0)" ... and it returns a read error -- I can hear it accessing the floppy, but to no effect.
