Install Xubuntu in toshiba portege

I've acquired a Portege 4000, built in 1999/2000 and have installed XP on it.

With XP I needed to install a Display Driver from Toshiba to make it cover the full screen (otherwise it only covers 3/4 of the screen).

Having booted Xubuntu 9.04 from the cd rom, it only covers 3/4 of the screen. How can I get this to get a full screen effect?

I will probably use a wubi install for this, but may put it on a separate partition at a later date.

Thanks

how much ram does it have?

It has 256MB (reduced to 240MB for VRAM). I'm hoping to upgrade soon to 512MB or 1024MB, however the processor is only 750 MHz.

Screen shots here are of tinycore-2.0 playing on my 160MB ram 4gb hd 7000CT portege
and it runs fast too.
other good ones to consider are fluxpup412, GalliBox pup, and maybe crunchbang as crunchbang has small fonts
and low resource openbox wm.
all above ran very well on 160MB ram
I also had slack-12.2-XFCE4 on it, but with a 4gb hd, slack really ain't the best choice.

right now I have tinycore-2.0, webserverpuppy1, and GalliBox pup
on the 7000ct, all on 1 partition, as all three are frugal installs.

modular distro's like puppy, tinycore work really good cause you can choose to load only the apps you need.
like, say you wanna just jam down on some xmms oe audacious while you browse the web, just
install OSS/alsa, firefox/minefield/or opera, flash10(easy!), and the depends(auto installs) and your off!
with tinycore you can designate different folders to save extensions too.

whatever you choose to do I would like to know results...

Thanks for all this. These apps look really cool.

Will get more RAM first, then decide & let you know. If I don't install them on this system, I'll definitely have fun testing them from the live cd...
