install red hat 9.0 in windows
 

i have desktop with windows me and windows 2000 advance server .

my question is how to install red hat as my third os in my desktop ?

just pop in your redhat9 cd and follow the instruction. but remember to use GRUB as bootloader and you'll be save on that..

and also, make sure your data is backed up and you have made a partition for redhat.

Before that, you need to do one more important thing....

Enter into your computer's BIOS setup and set the boot sequence with CDROM as the first option. So, it should be set to

CDROM, C(hard disk), A(floppy)

Save the new settings and exit from the BIOS setup. Once you do this, you will be able to boot from your RedHat 9 CD.

Just keep following the instructions as per the RedHat CD and you'll be through soon.

i want to install it on secondary slave .

i have follow all the step
i have made one partition for red hat .

and i dont want to lose any data in my hard disk .
so from the installation , i choose

- automatically partitioning
- keep all partition and use existing free space

but it have error partitioning

- could not allocated request partitions
-partition failed could not allocated partitions as primary partitions

The slave drive probably already has a partition taking up all its free space. Make sure you delete all the partitions on that hard drive and try it again.

is there any other ways . because i have two partitions on that secondary drive . one is for windows 2000 advance server and i plan to install redhat at the other partitions without losing winsk os ..

In that case you might try to selct the "manual partition" and if you know where it is on the Linux screen (as selecting the wrong one might lead to loss of data)
Select the partion you want to choose and click edit
Select format partion as.. and also set the root parameter..that should do ...at least that is wht i did

i click at partion that i want to install and click edit .
what is the mount point and what type of format partition that that i should choose

and where can i set /root parameter

The easiest would be to delete the 2nd partition and select auto partition on free space.

This will create 3 partitions a /boot, / and a swap.

The 2nd easiest would be to again delete that 2nd partition.
create a swap partition of about 512mb
create a / with all the rest.

Use ext3 for filesystem type.

before this when i start the computer , i can choose what os should i start .

how can i configure boot loader so that i can also choose redhat or other os when i start the computer

RH default bootloader is grub. You can choose which OS to boot and you can also change which is the default OS to load.

To configure grub for the default OS you modify the /boot/grub/menu.lst file.
