install package


I hv installed the debian , where can I find the package for it eg . ? t

http://www.debian.org/distrib/packages

Also take a look at apt. APT will be the main way to get packages. You can use apt-setup to select sources and then you can install packages with:

apt-get install packagename
Check "man apt" for more info and options.

thx reply, I am new to it, i have some question , i hv d/l the package which are .deb format , I only hv exprience to use rpm -ivh .rpm to install the RH package , could suggest how can I install these debian package ? besides , for the apt-get , I am also new to it , if i use it , do i need to setup the debian server to connect internet first ? thx in advance.

You can use different sources for APT. Internet is one of them. Run apt-setup to see which. You'll need internet to use the internet sources.

To install loose .deb packages do this:

dpkg -i packagename.deb

when I install a new package , it always pop the message " dependency problems - leaving unconfigured " , do I need to configure something before install a new package ? thx in advance .
