Hi,

I'm trying to install Oracle 8.1.7 on SuSE 7.1.
The runInstaller script yielded the following error message. Can someone please tell me what the problem might be? Thanks.

Yee

#./runInstaller
# Initializing Java Virtual Machine from ../stage/Components/oracle.swd.jre/1.1.8/1/DataFiles/Expanded/linux/bin/jre. Please wait...
SIGSEGV received at bfffdb80 in /cdrom/stage/Components/oracle.swd.jre/1.1.8/1/DataFiles/Expanded/linux/lib/linux/native_threads/libjava.so. Processing terminated

Here is the fix if anyone having the same problem. Run "unset LANG" before executing "runInstaller". That's all.

The IBM JRE 1.1.8 bundled with 8.1.7 has broken locale (local language) support. If you have any problems with the Oracle Java tools try unset LANG (this un-sets the language environment variable) before calling any of them. They will now come up in the default language (English) instead of your local language. It also helps if your own language is English anyway.

Thumbs up

keep going.... you can see more reference to en and lang
set in your environment

set|grep -iE 'lang|en'

I had to unset all the following on Mandrake 8.0

LANG=en
LANGUAGE=en_US:en
LC_COLLATE=en_US
LC_CTYPE=en_US
LC_MESSAGES=en_US
LC_MONETARY=en_US
LC_NUMERIC=en_US
LC_TIME=en_US
RPM_INSTALL_LANG=en_US:en
langfile=/etc/sysconfig/i18n

I got the installer running now, I'll see how far I get

Removing all LANG environment variables on SuSE 7.1 with Oracle 8.1.6 got the installer running for me!

Keith.
