install .ko module

I have Fedora Core 2 (kernel 2.6). I want to install a module ieee1394 but insmod returns an error (invalid format). I believe that since kernel 2.5 the module file extension is.ko Has anyone an idea?

That's correct, what was the insmod error message? If this module was compiled by someone else, you'll want to make sure its is for the exact same version on the kernel you have running.

I believe (I'm now working) it was:

Error inserting 'ieee1394.o': -1 Invalid module format.

Is it correct that the new .ko modules must be loaded with module-init-tools?
