install hangs after boot prompt

Trying to install RedHat 8.0 on an IBM xSeries server (pIII-833 or something), install hangs after the boot: prompt. Server used to have RedHat 6.2 and reinstalling that works fine. However we need at least 7.2 to upgrade Domino to version 6. We also tried 7.2 and it reboots after hitting enter (with any kernel parameters) at the boot: prompt.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. We'd rather not be running Win2k on this box.

What kind of drives/controllers are we installing to?

We have a seagate baracudda (80 Gb) drive as the master and a maxtor (60 Gb) drive as a slave. UDMA controller.

It seams be a problem with Grub as the redhat 6.2 install went off without a hitch.
