Instal Ubuntu at work

At work we use Mac and Windows. A program we have to make orders and dockets won't run on Ubuntu but I would love to instal it istead of Windows. I was thinking of running this program through a virtual Windows if I change over to Ubuntu.

Any advise or experience in this area? What other kinds of problems will I face if I instal Ubuntu. Is there going to be any networking isssues?

Running your program in a Windows 7 virtual machine should work fine. If your using wired Ethernet you won't have any networking problems. If you are using WiFi and connect using wpa enterprise, you may have trouble getting the certificates.

You can't easily change over to Linux and then run a Windows virtual machine. The problem is with the EULA on windows. It may or may not allow you to change systems. While you think it may be the same computer, to the OS it is not. A virtual machine is a software creation based on some real hardware and that reports to the OS as new hardware. Unless you bought a full retail copy of Windows 7 it is unlikely to switch over.

I don't see any network issues that can't be fixed.

So maybee I should partition my drive and make sure I'm abale to run the programs I need using Ubuntu and virtual Windows.

Why don't you leave the Windows and run Virtual Ubuntu instead? No licensing issues for Windows and Ubuntu should just work. If it's a Corporate PC (er.. like mine  ) you may have issues with your employer dual booting the system. With a Virtual system you can just remove it if required. :)

Play Bonny! :hattip:

i use fedora live-usb for that very reason.

I said you are unlikely to be able to run Windows in a VM unless some other conditions are true.

Soadyheid posts a good suggestion. Use a VM in Windows. Also the fact that this is a corporate system, even using a live usb may put your job at risk.
