hi ,
im trying to monitor file system activities in my FC5 , and i heard that inotify is a good mechanism , but i dont see the device file in /dev
when i configured my kernel ( 2.6.15 ) i enabled the option , but i still dont see it , i also cant find any good patches for it anywhere ..
can u plz tell me what 2 do , ty
Did you checked the dmesg log for inotify messages? If you see the message, but still the device nodes are not created, then you may need to create the inotify device node manually using mknod.
Check also the output for this, just to make sure:
Code:
zcat /proc/config.gz | grep -i inotify
There's a package called inotify-tools (though that depends on the distro you use and the packagers, actually), that should contain two tools, inotifywait and inotifywatch. Those are two simple examples on how to use inotify, and are also usable from regular shell scripts as well.
thx for the replies , i tried both of ur commands , when i checked dmesg i got this :
SELinux : initialized(dev inotifyfs ,type inotifyfs )uses genfs_contexts
and when i tried zcat i got :
CONFIG_INOTIFY=y
so i guess ill try mknod and downloading inotify_tools
