I installed linux 3.01 in my Dell laptop but i can't finish it because i dont know the password can someone help Please

Welcome to LQ. Please provide more information: What exact distro are you using? (Examples: Debian, Slackware, SuSE, Fedora, Mandrake, etc, etc.) Also, perhaps I am not understanding your question correctly, but assigned a password to the root account is a normal step of the installation process. Are you saying that you have not yet installed Linux, or that you did fully install Linux before but you can't remember the root password?
