Incorrect DMA

First off so as not to confuse anyone, ignore my signature because this post is for a different system.
Slackware 9
Abit BE6 (Highpoint HPT 366 ide & PIIX4 controllers)
P3 500Mhz

I'm using the Highpoint controller, not the PIIX4 controller and I cannot get the OS to correctly set DMA for my primary hd. The Highpoint BIOS detects it correctly (UDMA 4) but, when the system is done booting hdparm shows it as *UDMA 2. When I change the setting with hdparm it shows up as UDMA 4 but, 'hdparm -Tt' still produces the same results. Also, passing 'ide2=ata66' to the kernel doesn't work either. Here is some info:

/dev/hde:
Timing buffer-cache reads: 128 MB in 1.22 seconds =104.92 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 64 MB in 3.76 seconds = 17.02 MB/sec

try "idebus=66" in your boot loader kernel parameters

Thank you for your reply but unfortuneately it didn't help. It does accept it as a valid option but made no difference.

Kernel command line: auto BOOT_IMAGE=Linux ro root=2103 idebus=66 ide2=ata66
ide_setup: idebus=66
ide_setup: ide2=ata66
ide: Assuming 66MHz system bus speed for PIO modes
ide0: BM-DMA at 0xf000-0xf007, BIOS settings: hda:pio, hdb:pio
ide1: BM-DMA at 0xf008-0xf00f, BIOS settings: hdc:pio, hdd:pio
ide2: BM-DMA at 0xd800-0xd807, BIOS settings: hde:DMA, hdf:pio
ide3: BM-DMA at 0xe400-0xe407, BIOS settings: hdg:pio, hdh:pio

Any other ideas?
