Improving the tab command line feature

I’m sure every one is familiar with using the tab key to finish commands and namely filenames.

This is a great feature but It seems Microsoft *gulp* has stolen it and made it one better.

If anyone has used Microsoft command prompt they may of found that when you start to type a file name and there are several files that could possibly be the one you wanted, progressively pressing tab will toggles through them. Unlike unix's way of just echoing the possible results on the screen.

Is there a way of doing this in unix/linux? Btw, I use Bash

Ps, I am not crazy

The features of the command-line depends on your shell; it makes no sense to criticize the Unix command-line just because your bash shell doesn't have some feature or it's not enabled. The feature you're looking for is called "menu completion". In zsh (the Z shell, it has thousands of features, including all the features of all the other shells combined and much more), the "AUTO_MENU" option (automatic menu completion) is enabled by default, so if you switch to zsh you won't have to even manually enable it. Other shells may have ways of doing it too.
