image viewer

Is there a simple image viewer in linux that resemble pictures and fax viewer in windows? I really hate it when all I want to do is browse pictures and it loads up gimp, which is needlessly overcomplicated for simple viewing. Preferably, the program should be able to browse pictures in the same folder without having to close it.

Recently I began using Endeavour2, which is a good substitute...though I can't make it display a slideshow. You could also try Kuickshow, which will run a slideshow. I really like the Endeavour2 app better myself.

gtksee gives me headaches with the image display sizes but it's as fast as the faster and supports a HUGE amount of image formats including gimp's xcf
