illegal bitmap block(s)

i ran fsck on mounted ext3 and now i have some serious problems. I cannot boot up anymore partition is corrupt. I tried booting knoppix and fixing it and it says fsck.ext3: e2fsck_read_bitmaps: illegal bitmap block(s) for /dev/hda5

how else can i fix the problem if it is possible to fix it.
Or should just format the drive? I didn't have anything important there
