if its not broke.. should i fix it?

quick question--
im new to linux, and have ubuntu running but dont use it much.. but it seems all very interesting. i use xp pro (for 1 game, mp3s, misc junk)... and it works just fine, i never get viruses or spyware or anything like that.
should i bother trying to go the linux way and forget about m$?
i dont spend $18,000+ on xp pro, office, frontpage, vs.net etc etc.. so its not that im really supporting them. if what i have now works fine should i bother with linux?

thanks for your thoughts

Just be glad that linux and the bsd's exist so that you have a choice. If Linux wasn't around, windows would be worse than it is. If you're happy with windows, keep using it. Play with linux when you want to. You may eventually like it better, you may not.

You can just use Linux as a learning tool. Something to play around with. Go break something, like I just did trying to install gDesklets....

lol mastermind
whats that app... like widgets or whatever, that are on your desktop? hey, actually i did break something! :D couple days ago i got help on this site in the newbie forum, with quite afew things... i got xmms installed and running... and now it doesnt work! w00t i uninstalled and reinstalled stil doesnt work, ill probably just reinstall the whole thing lol

ya... if linux (alternatives) werent around, m$ would be able to get away with 200% more stuff; but the software might be couple bux cheaper, since no competition.. i dunno, thats not the state anyways thankfully. a change is refreshing.

iv been hearing so much hype (as so many people are these past couple years) about linux, etc.. and want to learn. i hear linux is a great development environment as well.. and i will be doing java, and c++... but then again, how much overhead is 'notepad' anyways? not enough to format and develop in linux... i guess its just for, as you guys said, fooling around with and exploring the options; at least now for me.

thanks again
