icons are disappear from screen in RHEL5


Hi All,

I am using rhel5.
As I rebooted my system, Icon are disappeared from desktop. right click of mouse is also not working. I know that I hvn't made any modification in any configuration file. Please tell, how to recover this...

have you installed any updates on RHEL5 - and called your payed tech support ?
is there an error in the xorg.0.log
it is in /var/log

Is this only happening with a single user? have you tried creating a new user and starting X

yes, same problem with all users...

Fedora had a problem like this a few years back caused by Gamin and the Kernel, have you changed or your updated kernel? From looking at bugzilla it appears it was fixed by the next kernel update - still with this in mind I can't imagine Redhat would be making the same mistake in RHEL5

Any error's in X? or messages?

Also does the system boot to init 5 or does it boot to init 3 and then you manually startx? if it boots direct to init 5 change it and then see if you get any errors in the console after the failure

Thanks for reply..
Same things happens in runlevel 5 and with startx.I am not getting any error, bckground is there, only icons are disappeared. There is no error in X log.
