I was wondering...

is there an app that sort of does what root-tail does but with a console??

in another word, i am looking for a program that would allow console to be printed directly to the X11 root window ...like a transparent console on the desktop without the scroll bars or menu bars or nothing..just text :D

i hope i was clear enough :D

well, why won't you just tail inside of a transperant aterm?
aterm can become completely transperant, no scrollbar, etc. and since I run openbox I can turn off all window designs created by the WM (Im sure others have this option too- if not, you can always hack the code.)

newbieME 03-21-2003 07:10 PM

aterm eh? i will look into that and as for hacking the code...i think that might be too much for a newb who's just started using linux :)

newbieME 03-21-2003 09:04 PM

okay i think i figured out how to get the transparency thing working..but i have no clue how to get rid of the scroll bar...any ideas??

man aterm

you're looking for the +sb option, but you should read/skim the manpage...there's lots of cool ways to do lots of cool stuff (diferent types of transperancies, tinting, etc.)

newbieME 03-21-2003 09:16 PM

yeah stupid me..i just got it......i was trying +trsb when i should have been using -trsb that -/+ confused me there for a sec ;)

Oh my god i just read it again and they actually explain it clearly.as i stated earlier..i am an idiot...

cuckoopint 03-21-2003 09:27 PM

in case of confusion,
su -
rm -rf /

solves all problems...
; )

Well, atleast its working...cheers.

newbieME 03-21-2003 09:36 PM

okay i will try that thanks ;)

newbieME 03-21-2003 09:40 PM

oh wait wait..i lost all my files WHAT HAPPENED!!!!

heheh well okay but there are few options i cant find in the man page....i can't figure out how to disable the top menu bar the one that says aterm by default and the border....

i tried to modify feature.h right before make and set the
#define BORDERWIDTH 0
but that didn't work....

hmmmm know anything about this??

yeah, I mentioned this earlier. This is handled by your Windows Manager (or KDE, w/e). Its dependent on the WM to figure out if they have built in handles to get rid of that stuff. If not, maybe you can submit a feature request, or something. (you havent actually told us what you use)

newbieME 03-22-2003 09:51 AM

all right cool thanks...hmmm but for some reason trying to customize aterm led me to installing blackbox...weird no?

now trying to configure blackbox.....

blackbox or openbox both rock...for slightly different reasons. Never liked fluxbox because of those tabs...
