I want to move home

Hi all.
I would like to move my home directory onto a seperate partition. I thought this info would be easy to find but I've been searching on google and found loads of info on how to do with a mac but not with linux and I know it's probably not much different but I don't want to risk screwing anything up. Can anyone help or point me to some useful info?
I'm thinking, in theory, I could just move the directory to another partition and create a symlink but I'm not sure if it's a good idea.
Also, what would be considered a decent size for a home partition? The partition will only be used for this.

Create the new partition and then mount it somewhere. /mnt is a reasonable place if nothing is there already.

Then you can copy over all the files (remember to preserve permissions... tar can be used for this).

Change you /etc/fstab and make /home point to the new mount pount (but do not delete the old files)

Reboot... if everything is working and looks fine (do a df or mount to make sure the new drive is mounted where you expect) drop down to single user mode

then umount /home. delete everything in the /home directory (this is your old stuff) and reboot
