I need some WindowMaker help .......

Hi. I have WindowMaker running on slackware. I am a little confused as to how wmaker sets up menu's etc. I like hand-editing the menu's with the file GNUstep/Defaults/WMRootMenu but it has now stopped initializing this menu config. When wmaker launches everything is set to the default menu setting as when I first used wmaker. In the README it says to use the file GNUstep/Library/WindowMaker/menu to 'hand-edit' the menu (which is what I like and want to do) and then place "~/GNUstep/Library/WindowMaker/menu" into the WMRootMenu to use the 'menu' file but it doesnt work. I am confused.
All I want to do is hand-edit the config file that config the right-click menu in WindowMaker but I can't seem to find out how. I had it working once but can't remember how. If anyone is familiar with the in's and out's of WindowMaker I could use some help.

thanks

Use the wmakerprefs util to edit the menu. also, always exit wmaker by logging out of it, ie choosing exit from the menu, this will save the settings.

hope this works for you...

PEACE

edit: this just came into my head: you can also add a line into your xinitrc to copy a backup of your menu file into the directory you mentioned. add this line before the line that starts wmaker.

thanks .. but I don't wanna use the utility. I want to manually edit the files. I have done it before and it has worked but can't remember how I did it.

great...did you even read my whole post? my last suggestion will work for you then... also, if you use the utility, you are also ´hand editing´the file, just through a gui instead of a text editor, same difference. but, if you wish to remain stubborn then find out how you can `exit´ wmaker cleanly(this means dont use ctrl-alt-bckspce), and your problems should be solved.

PEACE
