I need help in thinking up an Update strategy

Hello to all,

I dare say I'm still new to Linux. I run RedHat 9.0. As much as I have a few unresolved technical issues, this is not what I come for help with right now.

What I'd really like advice with, is how I'd go about ensuring that all my compontents are patched, and I have the latest stable versions of all my daemons etc. Do I simple have to go about dloading and compling source all the time? Or is there a more organized way to go about doing this?

Please Advise
Thank you

My choice for updating/installing for Red Hat is apt4rpm.

Well fancypiper,

I checkout the apt link, and read around. Seems to me that this concentrates more on rpm's. But will it keep things like Sendmail, Iptables, vsftpd, etc. updated? as i don't seem to find these in RPM's.

Thank you.

Just run these two commands:

apt-get update
apt-get dist-upgrade

After it completes, you should be up to date.

I've not really understood my options as yet.

Please advise.
Thank you.
