Ya just can't go wrong with a US Robotics Sportster, if they still make them. Great modems, rock solid, totally Linux compatible.

Anything that is EXTERNAL and connects to the SERIAL port should work fine. I'm rather fond of the Diamond SupraExpress Pro 56e models (I have two and they have served me well).

modem

I have used with success a Creative Labs Modem Blaster (external) and find it to work well. Both on Linux and Windows. I have seen them in computer stores for @ 45.00. Hope this helps.

3COM ...

You can buy an 3COM U.S. Robotics external modem ...
It's good ... Really good
All external modems with serial connection mode in linux are good.

Regards.
