I need a driver for onboard SoundMax from A7V8X-X for Slackware 9.0, please!
 

I bought A7V8X-X motherboard and I installed Slackware 9 on it.
It came with onboard SoundMax, but on linux I just can't make it work. Anyone can help me?!? Where can I find the driver for it?!?

Its obviously the nvidia chipset,

Go to nvidia.com,

Download the .tar or rpm for it.

Then come back for further instructions.

Hm... in Windows XP, it shows SoundMax driver, but actually it's an AC97 sound.
The lspci gave me this...

Like I said, I'm using Slackware 9, and I tried to compile the ALSA driver on it, but I don't get it. Is there any especific driver for it?!?

did you insert the audio module?


what steps did you take to do this?

Hm... finally I got to compile them driver (alsadriver) but i'm having the followingo problem:

In regards to what someone posted earlier, your motherboard does not use an Nvidia sound chip. I think he's got the A7N8X and the A7V8X confused. You're using an AD1980 chip (Analog Devices) which uses the via686a or intel8x0 module. It looks like you're using the VIA module -- try the Intel one just to see if it works better for you.

That being said, it looks like you have it installed but have a resource conflict. Do you have any PCI cards installed? If so, try moving them to different slots. Sometimes the onboard sound chip will share resources with a PCI slot.

Also make sure the Plug N Play OS option is set to "NO" in the BIOS.

Even with the conflict, I got to make it work now just setting the volumes on alsamixer. Its driver continues with that error on initialization but it's working greatful.

I've changed PCI cards but they don't work yet.
I think this driver is crazy... hehe... but it's working perfectly even the mic... so I will let it this way.
