I messed up synaptic for redhat 8.0

I tried to add a new source to my source depository (Trying to get kde3.1) and I guess I left the default deb, instead of replacing it with rpm, and now I get the following error and cannot get back to settings to change it.

Type 'deb' is not known in on line 57 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list

The list of sources could not be read.

can this be fixed?

When I close the error window, the synaptic gui closes, so I can't get in to settings to edit the source depository.

Just edit your sources.list file manually. It's in /etc/apt/sources.list obviously.
