LQ has been an invaluable learning experience for me for a decade and a half. I've probably learned more by trying to answer questions and reading others' answers to questions I did not ask than I have by asking my own.
I have never encountered the arrogant RTFM Linux geek of myth--most Linux users I've met have been overjoyed to meet another Linux user--but I think that LQ is one of the most welcoming Linux places on the inner webs.

(I am curious as to what linguistic sensitivity the made-up word " frickin' " offended ???)
fricken wasn't used. That a deity should impose judgment on someone is what was used.
Moderating it is what I would say should have been done, or not post that to start with.
Point taken. I didn't remember until you reminded what the original word was, and yes, I agree that should not have been used and was correctly removed.
Are you saying OP did use the actual F-word (or something to that effect), and later claimed they didn't:

If that is true, it unfortunately puts the OP in a very bad light indeed.
That said, I never understood why U.S. americans are so obsessed with swearing.
It's outright ridiculous to see the amount of violence being shown on TV, but every "f**k", "sh*t" or "d*mn" is faithfully bleeped out.

We don't like it. There is a political ideology that is in control of hollywood. We have told them for years that we don't like the garbage that they are making. Hence the reason for the low ratings on some of the programs that they make. And the popularity with British shows like Downton Abbey, Touch of Frost, New tricks, Death in Paradise, Durrells in Corfu, Poldark, Shetland, London kills, etc. etc. Not all Brit shows though. Ever see Shameless UK? Golly. There are some great Ozzie show too.
I've said it before. It's the only industry that you can name where the US customers tell them that they don't like their product, only to have them say, if you don't like it, it's because you are too stupid, racist, antihomo, misogynist, religious etc. to like it, and we are going to keep making the product that we like anyway.
We don't like it. We simply don't watch it. Haven't for years. Well some do, but a 6% of the US viewing audience is huge now for them. Kinda like "the nightly news". Whereas a kinda cheesy soap like Downton Abbey is being rerun over and over. It's also the reason for all of the old tv/movie channels that have popped up on over the air tv in the last 5-6 years.
What you are seeing is hollywoods made up version of the US. Not reality.
Sure, men swear out in the field when around each other, not too much around the females. They don't like it.
I should have noted the use of the full word 'GD' is offensive therefore does violate the LQ Rules thus the removal and infraction given for this violation.
Distribution: Currently: OpenMandriva. Previously: openSUSE, PCLinuxOS, CentOS, among others over the years.

Yep, I'm sure many will agree with you Captain Brillo that this site is very valuable. I think as far as the number of members it has for one thing, it's the biggest Linux forum on the net. I like it also because it isn't just tied to one particular distro, it also caters for BSD users, and at least as far as I can see, and for at least the most part, you can speak your mind (within reason of course ). Plus there's people here that have experience in most, if not, any areas of Linux and FOSS in general you can think of. So chances are, if it's a technical problem, someone here can likely give a solution to it, or at least point you in the right direction to help you solve it. A lot of the time, if I do a Google web search for something Linux related, I'll likely get hits pointing to this site in the search results.

You might be surprised to learn that this is not a new problem. C S Lewis wrote an essay called "Good Work and Good Works" back in 1959 in which he lamented the fact that artists of all kinds no longer saw it as their job to create work that people admired but instead produced whatever they liked and then castigated the public for not "appreciating" them.
I have never encountered the arrogant RTFM Linux geek of myth…
I encountered them on the Debian forum! But this place is full of the most incredibly patient people — sometimes getting details from the poster is like pulling teeth, but the gurus persevere.
