I have quite a few badblocks at the end of the disk. Is it OK?
I have Seagate Barracuda 40G 7200rpm, it's almost 2 years old. I've checked all 8 partitions and at the end of the 8th "badblocks" started to print its numbers one by one:
from 2527552... until I've canceled checking... the partition size was of 2530206 blocks. So is it OK to have ~3000 bad blocks at the end of the disk? PS: I've used this partition to install different distros of Linux and Windows, also thru VM... Could this spoil the end of the disk? Thanks. |
I would keep those blocks out of partitions entirely. Additionally, large numbers of badblocks generally mean that a hard disk failure is imminent.
