Exclamation i hate kernel ide errors

Hello all!

I guess you can consider me a newbie. I run a linux filer server on my network at home. I had a hotswap IDE drive, and decided to be brave and to try it out. I unmounted the drive and removed it with no problem. I actually needed that particular hard drive, so I decided to put in a new hard drive. Now. no matter wheather the drive is in the HotSwap bay or not, I keep getting a kernel error saying:
ide1: status timeout: status=0xff {busy}

oops, i didn't finnish the error; the rest went:
ide1: unexpected interrups, status = 0xff, count = 61759
hdc: drive not ready for command

And the damned thing keeps scrolling over and over every few seconds, which makes it really hard to reconfigure my Apache server. Please help.

I've read about this in the past and even though you may have a hot-swapping bay, I'm pretty certain the kernel still doesn't support re-scanning IDE channels yet, something I stumbled accross while looking into software raid... poke around on google for a bit you'll probably find the same thing.

Cheers,

Finegan
