I cannot load gdm
Ahoy,
When editing gdm themes, i changed a color and forgot to put a # sign infront of it. gah! Now, gdm will not load making it impossible to log on. I am running Mandrake 10.0 and was wandering if there was a way i could skip the login manager or maybe use text mode to change my gdm settings to a different theme so i can log on and correct what i have done. Thanks |
yeah that's easy enough. you should be able to just hit Ctrl+Alt+F2 to get a login terminal and edit /etc/X11/gdm.conf or whichever file it is. If you're having a situation whereby X is failing and respawning continually, next time you boot, add "3" to the boot command, and you'll load up without X at all.

ok, forgive the newness to linux but what can i use to edit gdm.conf from the terminal?

pico is about the easiest to use. failing that, vi or emacs.
