I am trying to install a .deb but I keep getting this message "E: sub-process popen returned an error (2)"
I am very, very new to linux. I installed ubuntu yesterday! And well, I've been trying to install a bunch of stuff. I've been noticing some errors whenever I try to install repos that, for most people, seem to work just fine. One error in particular I keep getting is: "E: sub-process popen returned an error (2)". I never really noticed this error until I tried to install the linux version of minecraft. I opened the minecraft.deb file, and it gave me the "E: sub-process popen returned an error (2)".
I've searched all over the internet and I cant find the solution to this problem or anyone that has ever had it! I really have no clue as to what I'm supposed to do. Please help!
A web search for "E: sub-process popen returned an error (2)" will turn up a number of articles about this. Apparently, it could have several different causes.
You might want to try the search, look at some of top articles, and determine which seem would seem most suited to your case.
Go into synaptic package manager and look for broken packages. Then use fix broken packages in th menu.
I've fixed error code 1 with apt-get -f install. But not sure about error code 2. I think I had to remove some broken packages years ago but dist-upgrade let me know what was broken.\

Huh. I installed "apt-get -f install" with synaptic, I then hit "apply", and it worked! I saw is also removed some packages, so I'm guessing that might have had something to do with it. I've just installed minecraft! And some other .deb files I was having trouble with. I didn't mention it in my post, but I was also having problems installing wine, but now it works! Thanks.
