"I've detected a panel already running, and will now exit"

Okay Im on FC6 and I just yum update, and now I have all the updates, I went to restart X but now I just get the error, "I've detected a panel already running, and will now exit" and I havn't got my taskbar or whatever its called in linux I googled it and then i ended up trying "gnome-panel" in terminal and I get the same error, I managed to create a file on desktop to launch terminal, so i can use firefox, etc...

Does anyone know what ive done // how to fix it, or what update may of done this for me to try and uninstall?

Edit, I found a fix for this
Quote:
"opening up a terminal (behind the error message if it lets you), and run gnome-control-center. It's supposed to clean up a few config files, or so I've heard."
EDIT: It still dont work, when I restart I have to do that again to get taskbar up.

Try the following
from terminal run
>gconf-editor (if command not found then yum -y install gconf-editor)
In the Configuration Editor
goto tab apps->panel
In the panel tab locate 1. general
2. toplevels
In the general tab the the toplevel_id_list should be [top_panel,bottom_panel]
& object_id_list should have [menu_bar,......]
In the toplevels tab there should be two tabs, bottom_panel & top_panel
Also check if autohide key is checked (in toplevels->bottom/top_panel)
If you go through the keys & values I think you may get the answer why your panel is running but not visible

Could there be an orphaned pid file that is being detected. Look before starting gnome.
