I've accidently removed a ext usb drive partition

Hi All,

I've accidently removed a partition from the wrong ext usb hard drive.

I used : sudo fdisk /dev/sdb

and proceeded to the fdisk interface to delete the 1 only primary parition on the drive. And to create a new one of type fat32. I then exited fdisk saving changes.

I have NOT formatted yet !

Is there any hope to recovery the data or original partition ?

Hello,
you could try testdisk.
You will have to run it from another device.

cheers

Before you start anything, run these commands - post the output.
Code:
sudo fdisk -l
sudo lsblk -f
Did you create the FAT32 partition to use the entire device ?. If so try to mount it as ext3/4 - the partition type is rarely a factor. If that fails, simply use fdisk again, and delete the FAT32 partition and create a linux partition that covers the entire device.
Then run the above commands again, and try and mount the partition.

Thanks for the input guys.

I was under a lot of presure to recover the files, and choose to purchase active file recovery.

Full recovery was acheived.

I do intend to learn a bit more about doing this without commercial solutions.

I will use a spare usb flash drive to practice on.
