I'm Stuck, so Stuck.
Hey everyone.
I've got a big problem. I decided to make the big leap to Redhat. I had in the past dabbled a bit in Mandrake and it worked fine. The problem lies here. When the Redhat installation first started it made it as far as it could before it hit the Graphical Interface then the monitors light when orange and bang.. nothing. So I read how to do a lowres installation and did so. It worked fine. Now the main problem is when i got into Redhat Gnome, i tried to up the resolution and once again it's like the computer goes into standby. Now I'm stuck with linux command prompt and i'm kinda a noob. What should I do? My Specs (You guys need these right?) AMD2200 256DDR Ram Savage4 DDR 32 Megs NEC 77F Monitor Thanks everybody. Until I here from this i'm stuck without a computer lol Blair |
Oh and one more thing. Once I get the graphical interface to work, what would be the best starters guide onr the net for linux. There seems to be so many.
Thanks again |
Although its been quite a while since I last used Linux, but as far as I remember you have to run Xconfigurator first to setup your video card then startx to start the graphical interface. (someone correctly if I'm wrong)

Redhat.... What type of RH install is this? If you do Alt+Ctrl+Num+ or Num-, does your monitor come back? If so, then you can go within your WM's control pannel and lower the resolution a tad. PS. What happens if you try running KDE instead of Gnome?
