I installed Debian Squeeze/stable on an Acer 3810T. It didn't want to suspend properly, but I
fixed that. Then it wouldn't hibernate, because the system had been installed from a thumbdrive that the system took as /dev/sda on a hard disk /dev/sdb, and so some configuration in /etc/fstab and elsewhere pointed to things on a nonexistent /dev/sdb3 swap partition. Fixed that with UUIDs, then hibernated. While hibernating it printed three times a "failed to resubmit" message (it did this even before I set the swap partition correctly, only then it would just boot anew when restarted).
I then powered it back on, and now the computer locks up at the BIOS screen. I can't even access the F12(boot select) or F2(bios setup) screens, it just sits there doing nothing.
I even removed the hard drive hoping it would do something else, but it doesn't.
What do I do?
(and yes, this is a crosspost from the Debian forums - sorry, but it is absolutely urgent that I fix this, the laptop isn't mine and it's looking uncomfortably close to bricked.)
Edit: fixed it by removing all power (battery and adapter) for a few seconds then plugging it back in. Holy crap was I scared. Phew. The thread no longer needs the "urgent!" part in the title - sorry about that, I sorta panicked a bit.
So now, how do I make it so it hibernates without scaring the hell out of me every time?
