HP DeskJet 3820

Has anybody gotten the 3820 to work on linux. I've studied and studied the pages at www.linuxprinting.org and I can't figure out how to get my printer working. I can't find a straight forward tutorial that explains what I need and how to install it. Please point me in a direction.

firstly how are you trying to connect the printer? network or to parrallel or what?

second can your computer see the device? /dev/lp0 or something?

check these things if you still want an answer post.

Remove any old printer stuff, install CUPS, install hpijs and point your browser at http://localhost:631/ and add that particular printer. Select one of the hpijs printing mechanisms.

CUPS is installed and running but http://localhost:631 gives a:

connection refused error.

I noticed that port 515 is open and the label on the port says printer but when I go to http://localhost:515 it gives a:

access to the port number given has been disabled becuase of security reasons.

Okay port 631 is open but when I go to http://localhost:631 I get a forbidden error. It says I do not have permission to access the resource on this server.

Did you start the cups daemon?

/etc/init.d/cups start
chkconfig cups on

Sorry this thread is very old. The problem was actually in my BIOS. I had to change the option to allow the OS to detect the peripheral devices.

when i go to /etc/init,d ther eis no cups to start?
i know the driver is installed!
do u have any advice?
i should change to /etc/init.d/cups then type start?

Do you have cups installed? What distro are you using?
