[SOLVED] HP deskjet 2050 j510 series multi printer

I have a HP deskjet 2050 j510 series multi printer. Why can't I access the scanner on it ?
I'm sorry. Please forgive me. I forgot there is different versions of Linux. I am running Ubuntu 12.04.

The printer plugs into the USB port. I can copy and print but not scan.
I tried using simple scan but it does not see the scanner on the printer.

Without details, there's nothing we can help you with. All you've told us is what kind of printer you have....you say nothing of your version/distro of Linux, how the printer is connected, what (if anything) DOES work on it, what you've done/tried, messages you've got, etc.

First and best suggestion would be to load and use the HPLIP program...how you do that depends on your distro, but it's available in most online repositories already. Building from source is not too difficult either:
