Unhappy howto start linux in text mode and not in graphical?


hey, i just wanna start linux in text mode to be able to install new nvidia drivers, but how to get in text mode?

If your using Redhat, edit your /etc/inittab file to start in runlevel 3 instead of 5.

whats the thing to change?
id:5:initdefault:.. instead of 5 to 3?
i'm not using linux very long so, well not that good at it

yeah. or to do it temporarily, just run "init 3" and then quit X

or control alt f1 ... up to f6 to create ... umm, sessions? in runlevel 3.. or [was it 1?]..
