how would you install win xp, win vista(beta), and slackware with a tri boot?
I have not recieved the computer that I was planning on doing this with. But I figured I should asked before it arrived and get a head start on figureing it out. I figure you could cut the harddrive into forths. The first install xp, the second vista, the third slackware, the forth vfat for storage. And that hopefully grub would just self setup it. Would it be that easy? Thanks for any help.
I think you'll need to partition the drive first, because XP at least just takes up the whole drive and as far as I remember it doesn't give you the option to set a specific size for partition(s). Of course, you can just resize the partition after installing it and then proceed with installing Vista and Slack. Also, the default bootloader for Slack is LILO. During installation, you aren't asked if you want to choose between LILO and GRUB. GRUB does come with Slack (it's in the extras folder on the CDs or on any of the mirror sites), so you can set it up afterwards if you choose.
Windows allows you to partition when you install, but of course you just leave the extra space as unpartation space. Ya LILO GRUB same thing. I just couldn't remember which one slack came with even though I see the screen everyday.
Heh, I'm sure when I installed XP it just made one big partition covering the whole drive. Oh well, it has been a while since I installed Windows! But yeah, what you want to do is fine then, though you probably want to have a swap partition as well.
