how to start mysql in fedora3

Hi all,

Ive installed fedora on my machine, started httpd and it works fine, but in the services app mysql is not listed even though I selected to install it.

I've tried running mysql start but it tells me..

ERROR 2002: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2)

I've read that you can run mysql_install_db, but it tells me I should make install first.

I'm sure theres an easy solution to this.

i just had this problem. try yum install mysql-server
it should install it and any other dependencies
for some reason it doesnt install the server automatically if you just click the mysql server button in setup. or at least it wasnt for me. I had to end up yum removind htptd php and mysql then redoing it and it all worked. when yum installs it correctly it should start with:
# /etc/init.d/mysqld start

also make sure that selinux ignores it and the firewall isnt blocking it either
