How to speed up mandrake 9.2?
 

I noticed it even takes the browser a while to boot up, which is a little bit annoying, is there anything should do to speed it up. I wouldn't be surprised if it was KDE so how do I switch it to gnome?

It's not KDE. Konquerer (the browser) is just massively slow. Took something like 12 seconds to render Google. Downloaded MozillaFirebird and Google renders in 1 second. I would replace it as a file manager as well. Still evaluating which one I like for that job.

Also, check out this guy's site. Probably one of the best resources I've seen yet for people coming up to speed on Linux.
