How to setup/use multiple monitors in a shell environment?

Is it possible to set up multiple monitors in a shell environment?

If so, how?

I´m running the Slackware default shell which AFAIK is bash.

The reason I ask is: running Ubuntu (with a desktop environment) I realized when you open a graphical application through a shell emulator, the console keeps printing messages when you do stuff in said graphical application, and when you click the 'x' on the app window the console goes back to the enter a command mode.

So, perhaps if one could do the same thing in a shell environment it could helpful to learn how things work inside Linux. I mean, have the shell open some application, display said app in a second monitor and print the messages in the first. Or even run multiple shell sessions, one in each monitor.

Thanks for your time.

You can start a graphical application and detach it from your current shell by doing:

Code:
nohup cmd &
where cmd is the command that you would normally run on the command line.

Smallpond, using the above command I noticed the program does not show up in the current bash,

and I receive the output: ignoring input and appending output to ´nohup.out´.

Is this case, what exactly is happening to emacs?

When I do that, emacs pops up in its own window and does not lock up the terminal session.
