how to see unmounted partitions

hi there.
i want to mount partitions from a disk but i don't know their name (as in dev/hda/or whatever)
i have two different disks with a few different partitions and filetypes. just by guessing would be difficult and time consuming process. there must be a way just to view their names.
on mandrake i used to be able to use harddrake but not so anymore as now i'm using Debian 3.1
thank you.

I find "fdisk -l" does all I need.
Mandrake probably used labels, which I suspect Debian won't by default.
There are GUI partition managers as well, gparted, qtparted amongst others - depends on what installs by default and what you choose to install.
