How to run a program on another terminal

How can I run a program on another terminal? I use console mode and a text browser to search for information most of the time. When using Lynx, I download stuff sometimes with wget using the "." external key but it does so in the background and I have to change terminals and do "ps ax" to see if it is still going. I'd like to be able to just switch terminals real fast and check. Thanks in advance.

I don't know lynx that well, but if it allows you to muck
about with the commandline you could add a
wget -o `date +%Y%m%d%H%M%S`.log and look at the
ouput of that with e.g. tail
