How to restore deleted files on Linux

Hi,

How to restore deleted files on Linux

Mishaps happen and things can go wrong for everyone when it comes to data loss, especially if you are the “never backup anything” kind of guy. Hopefully, Linux offers more than enough tools that allow you to find and restore a part or all of your lost data intact. Here is a quick how-to for the very simple to use TestDisk tool!

Two separate programs;
Quote:

TestDisk <- 'tool to check and undelete partition, supports reiserfs, ntfs, fat32, ext2/3 and others' + Above Livecds contain TestDisk + TestDisk Wikipedia + wiki + Data Recovery using TestDisk

PhotoRec, Digital Picture & File Recovery <- 'PhotoRec is file data recovery software designed to recover lost files including video, documents and archives from Hard Disks and CDRom and lost pictures (thus, its 'Photo Recovery' name) from digital camera memory. PhotoRec ignores the filesystem and goes after the underlying data, so it will still work even if your media's filesystem has been severely damaged or re-formatted'+ After Using PhotoRec + PhotoRec Wiki
Hope this helps!

There are partitions and there are filesystems. Partition table can be MBR or GPT. There is a wide variety of filesystems beginning with Ext2 and ending with ZFS. I find this poster onebuck incompetent. This whole thread should be trashed.

Because he posted a link to a tutorial? Please explain the logic you used to come to that conclusion.

I do not see any references by him to partitions, file systems, MBRs or formats. Or are you referring to the contents in the link he provided? In which case, you would believe he is incompetent, because he posted a link to a bad tutorial?

If you want to accuse someone of incompetence, you need to provide the reason(s). Considering the contents of his numerous posts up and down the board, I would hardly consider him incompetent. So please enlighten us.
