I saved the installer file to /usr/local/src and run the installation process. I installed it in the /usr/share/ directory as I cannot find out where is the current netvigator4.75 located. What a pity, I need to go to /usr/share/netscape/ directory and ./netscape to initialize it everytime. And the terminal has to be opened.
How can I replace the old version with the 6.1 and put the icon to the buttom panel?
Do I need to re-install it to the existing netvigator directory? but where is it?
I followed your instructions on my RH 7 box. My new Netscape launched but did not create an icon on my desk top or a launcher in a panel. What am I doing wrong?
well i did have freesearve, then bt openworld than aol and have suck with them, dont know why but i herd that theres some coding in aol that makes it compatable with windows only.
Why use Netscape 6.1? There are newer, cooler web browsers available, such as Mozilla 1.5 or Firebird (Mmmmm, popup blocking.) They should be available in RPM form somewhere on the net, and you should be able to find them by running searches at rpmfind.net.
Use the packaging tools that come with Red Hat - they automate things and make life so much easier.
And yes, AOL is pretty much Windows-only. As far as ISPs go, I personally use a local ISP (Front Range Internet Inc. or FRII, based in Northern Colorado) rather than the big conglomerates like AOL or MSN. FRII provides far better service than AOL or MSN, and I know a lot of the people who work there.
