Thanks tkedwards for the reply.

You told me before about this site. I thought I would give a try for the other solution and go to this easyurpmi site.

I will go there.

I deeply appreciate your support.

Yeah, I know what I said before, but listen to koven and tkedwards. If you have programs that can be downloaded and installed stright from Mandrake, you should try those first.

Thanks linuxseeker for the reply.

The following is the file:

gnomerar-0.5.0.tar.gz

I decompressed it; it worked fine and created the following folder.

gnomerar-0.5.0/

I went into the folder and wrote the ./configure command; it didn't work.

----------------------------------
[root@c83-250-91-176 gnomerar-0.5.0]# ./configure

configure: error: Could not find the gnomeConf.sh file that is generated by gnom e-libs install
[root@c83-250-91-176 gnomerar-0.5.0]#

What shall I do now?

I just mark the .rar file and click extract here; then the file decompresses.

I have Mandriva 2006 version.

How do I open the following .rar file?

'' Cisco IOS(TM) Software Quality of Service Solutions.rar ''

Your help is profoundly appreciated.

Give me your email and I'll send rar to you.

Now how to un-rar this file, do this;

rar e Cisco\ IOS\(TM\)\ Software\ Quality\ of\ Service\ Solutions.rar

I only do stuff by the command line so if you can't get a handle on that I can't help you. Sorry.

Are you using Mandrake/iva?

File roller handles perfectly rar files after downloading with "urpmi unrar" adn doing right click "open with..." file roller ....

it's not so difficult

I thank both of you for the replies. I was not logged on to the Internet for about 12 hours. So I couldn't read your comments.

It was very kind of you 'widgeteye' for the offer. I really appreciate your offer. Please remember that I have a 64 bit computer and 64 bit Mandriva version.

So the 32 bit versions program wouldn't function properly.

You could send me the program to the following email address when possible:

nissanka@swipnet.se

I install programs on the command line. I know how to open a tarball and other files and install on the command line. If it is something special, please tell me.

First I log on as a root user and write the command, for example:

tar -xzvf 'THE FILE NAME'.

If it decompressed properly, I would use the ' ./configure ' command. Afterwards, I will use the command ' make ' and ' make install '.

Please write me the command line instructions so there won't be any unforseen problems.

Thanks LinuxSeeker for the reply.

I was waiting widgeteye to send me the file. He has forgotten it. I haven't received, as yet.

How do I use Ark? I have never used Ark. It is something like the editor 'vi';that is my understanding. I know how to use the 'vi' editor.

I don't know how to find 'Ark' on my system. I know how to find and use the 'vi' editor. I am sure 'Ark' is on the system. I can't find it.

I just wrote the word 'ark' on the console. The following is the ouput.

[nissanka@c83-250-91-176 ~]$ ark
[nissanka@c83-250-91-176 ~]$ QMultiInputContext::changeInputMethod(): index=0, s lave=xim
[nissanka@c83-250-91-176 ~]$

[Now I got a separate window; it is Ark.] How do I use it?

I can search in Ark. I don't know what to search.

Ark and file roller are under menu->System->Archiving->Compression

Also if you right click on a compressed file (.rar, .zip etc) in the GUI it has options to extract or unarchive files and this uses Ark.
