How to make Boot CD to start

I'd search more for this but I do not have time. I have to reinstall windows XP because it got a nasty virus. When I do it will wipe out the MBR So I need to know how to make a boot cd and how to restore grub when I'm finished installing windows. Any help would be appreciated I have to get started on this tonight. Oh and one more thing I nolonger have my linux dvd, I loaned it to a friend and can't get ahold of them to get it back. I also don't have a dvd burner.

Linux is your friend!

Solution: Don't!

Use Linux instead of XP. XP sucks!!!

If you don't reinstall XP, then you will not have this problem!! Use Linux. Remember, Linux is your friend!

Grub has a manual that you can read online. It has answers! Read! http://www.gnu.org/software/grub/manual/grub.html

You are a good friend! As long as you did not loan out the XP dvd, you are okay! Remember, Micro$oft hates you!

You can put Linux on a cd, install it. Then, when your friend gives you back your dvd, you can reinstall the linux you like.

Solution: You do not need XP! Use Linux!!!

hmm

I don't like windows much but here's my problem.

1. I'm not the only one who uses this computer and I'm not going to be like a microsoft croney and force them to use linux because it is what I like.

2. I'm working on my degree and excel 07 and access 07 are required for this degree I'm already in the classes and have work due. I need microshit for that.

3. while I love linux it does not love all games not even with cedega or wine and i'm not such a diehard linux fan that I would wait up to several years just for the game I like to be usable with cedega or wine.

Remember linux is better but it can still be a pain in the ass from time to time so if I use both I can enjoy all my pleasures with only little snags like this one from time to time.

users who berate windows so much instead of promoting linux without insulting others is part of the reason why people get suspicious of linux users in the first place.

Darkone, we have a problem! What kind of idiot school would require you to use Micro$oft products to graduate? Change schools! I would have a fit! A double fit! A triple fit!

Either from a working Linux, or from a live Linux CD, you can open up a terminal, change to root with; su -l, (type that and hit enter), then just type; grub, hit enter, then root (hd0,0) and hit enter, if you want grub to be on first hard drive and first partition, then just type in this; setup (hd0) and hit enter, then it installs on the mbr, then type in; quit, your done. http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...t=grub+install

If you can use a computer to download a popular live Linux iso, and burn an image of it to CD, then you can boot the live CD and open a terminal to type in commands to install the grub boot loader. Also there is a disk called System Rescue CD here; http://www.sysresccd.org/Main_Page , and here are live CD links; http://www.frozentech.com/content/livecd.php

Task B4, B5 and B6 of the last link in my email refer if you want to restore Grub. Take your pick.

Any Linux Live CD can do the job. Should take no more than 1 minute.

You can put Grub in a floppy or a CD (same for USB pen drive) that can boot any system in a PC, by reading the Grub Manual or following this thread
