How to install a HP-Deskjet 890C on a PclinuxOS-Live CD?
I downloaded an *.iso file (pclinuxos-p81a-liveCD)
successfully and I burned a CD from it. The CD runs fine on my computer 586 which has Win98 on it. However, the LiveCD has only the Generic Printer (SGENPRT) installed and I would like to install or to activate my HP Deskjet 890C on the PclinuxOS, because right now I cannot print anything using the Pclinux Operating System. In WIN98 is fine, but not PclinuxOS. Your help on how to achieve that would be very much appreciated. Or is it at all possible to add another printer on a LiveCD system? Because I would prefer, for the time being, not to install PclinuxOS on my hard drive, if possible. Thanks for your help: Charles. . |
I don't have the original PCLinuxOS cd handy, just my remaster witch is configured to print. :) So, I can't remember for sure but I don't see why it wouldn't be able to setup printing.
Go to the bird on the lower left side of screen, up to Configuration / PCLinuxOS Control Center/Hardware/Configure printers, .... It may need an internet connection to download drivers but it should detect your hp ok. |
Thank you very much Homey for your excellent tip.
I did what you suggested and it worked! It worked best when the HP printer was designated as a "Local printer" not Networked. On my other posting re. "how to save a file in PCLinuxOS" I will ask you for assitance, since I don't know the exact command I should use. Charles. |
