How to get Windows boot loader?
When linux is installed, it identifies the wind0w$ OS loader, creates lilo/grub conf files accordingly and over writes MBR.
This happens even when I change the Linux distros, etc. How can I get the original windows bootloader??? For FUN :D |
if you want the windows boot loader, install lilo to
make a bootable partition, then edit the read-only (attrib -r boot.ini, to remove the read-only attribute to allow modification) hidden file c:\boot.ini on your windows partition and add a new entry pointing to this bootable linux partition. save, reboot. done. good luck. |
How it can be changed now.
Presently, I use grub as boot loader in MBR. Can this be changed to windows bootloader. Once I tried changing the boot.ini, it didn't work. I have linux installed in /dev/hda7, does your reply mean I should make /dev/hda7 as bootable partition., if so how to do? And What entries are to be made in boot.ini, if you can paste the code, it will be more helpful. |
hm. i suppose you can change it from mbr to bootable
partition be uninstalling lilo, then reinstalling it again on that partition to make it bootable. as for boot.ini, use this tool to make the changes easily. |
Thanks neenee, I will give a try after going home.:study:
