How to get acess to backup files made on vista

hello dear friends, what's up?

So, question is, I have a backup (written by win vista) file from a friend of mine who's trying to have access to it, then, I'd like to know how to read these files, he told me the file is on a "Live file system" format. Ideas?

Thank you in advance

"Live file system"? What does that mean?

If I were to venture a guess, I would say it's an iso, i.e. a CD image. If that's the case, you mount it like so (as root or a sudoer):

mkdir -p /mnt/disk
mount -o loop disk1.iso /mnt/disk

then you can cd into /mnt/disk & you should see your data.

If that doesn't work, we need to know more about the file. at a prompt, just type:

"file /path/to/windows/backup_file"

and give us the output.

This is not that simple.
Have a look at this: http://www.techtalkz.com/slackware-l...ten-vista.html

"Live file system" -> http://blogs.techrepublic.com.com/wi...windows/?p=536

Interesting. I wasn't aware Vista did that. In any event, here's one person who got it working:

Slackware has a form of apt, doesn't it? (slapt or something). Maybe the slack UDF tools have been updated too?
