How to execute a sheel by keystroke on Ubuntu (netbook remix)?

Hi

As silly as the question sounds, I could not find this simple answer on google.

I need to run a shell from a keystroke, since I don't have access anymore to the applications menu.
Unfortunately, Ubuntu Netbook Remix, which I am running on my Asus eee 901 is buggier than hell, random crashes, most of the time when you run a program it will just not start up and the preference point "main menu" has wiped all my applications menu, so no more access to anything that is not in the system or locations menu (no way to start a shell)

I want to run the command (for example firefox) in the shell, to see what is happening, why it is crashing (I suspect a segfault unfortunately).

So far my experiences wiht Netbook remix have not been very happy, it seems to be buggier than Ubuntu by leaps and bounds (having a firefox crash-start on a brand new setup and updated system will do that to you)

I am not sure I understand the problem....
But here are few things to try

ctrl+alt+f1/f2

OR

apt-get yakuake
press F12 to run the shell

OR alt+f1

Well, that is the way to do it then. YOu cannot run firefox from ctrl + alt + f1 obviously, it will not work. But installing yahuake will do the trick.

I have switched back from Ubuntu 9.04 which is juuuuust so horribily buggy to 8.04 and things are much better already.
